As many of you know, last year eBay had a build off contest between 4 garages building 4 styles of cars. Ended up being a Rock Crawler Monster Jeep, a Rally Porsche, a Lowrider El Camino and luckily Brian Mackey over at Mackey’s Hot Rods in Huntington Beach, California chose a van for his build. Some of you Vanners knew this as Krispy’s old van. For those of you who don’t he chose this 1968 2nd Gen Chevy. Brian’s inspiration for the build came in the form of a tribute to a friend of his grandfathers who had served as a pilot in World War II, Richard “Spider” Smith.
After the contest was over, all the vehicles were auctioned off with the proceeds going to charities chosen by the builders. The proceeds of the van went to the SEMPER FI FUND which provides financial assistance for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
The winners of this van were Roger & Karen Comstock. We had a chance to ask them a few questions and get some information on the van. The rest is as follows. Van on.
